It has been awhile once again. I am still set to head to Philmont this June. So I been in full swing on getting in shape for that trip. Along with getting all my gear set for the trek.
These past two months I have been working out at a fitness center along with my normal walking the dog exercises. At my age it is somewhat easy to get the muscles back in shape, the thing that is tough is getting the lungs built up for a trek that will start out a mile above sea level and take up to over 12,000 feet. The challenging part is the fact i am training in the northwest part of Ohio which is only 900 feet above sea level, and is very flat in this area. Just like in 2007 I just had to work just that must more to ensure that I was in shape for the trek.
This past Saturday it was a nice day considering it is in the middle of January. So I decided to go for a small hike along the Sandusky River. It was great to be outside, got to chase some deer all the way to the local park. Then slowly I worked my way back to the house. It is so much nicer to be outside hiking. Small treks like that continue to remind me why I like hiking so much.
I figured I hiked about 3 miles that day.
